Supporting Start-Ups Scheme

What is it

Hu Studio’s Supporting Start-Ups Scheme has been set up to provide new or young businesses in Pembrokeshire with supported design services in 2020. Pembrokeshire – and Tenby in particular – has enjoyed something of a renaissance in recent years which has been really exciting to see and be a part of. It’s also great to see national retailers investing in the area, but we want to support local independent businesses to flourish alongside them. It is more important than ever that local businesses have access to high-quality design to enable them to stand shoulder to shoulder with their national counterparts, whether that’s on our High Street or online serving a wider audience.

We are offering a discounted design scheme for a limited number of new and young businesses in the area to allow start-ups with lower budgets to access the design expertise that will boost their chances of succeeding in competitive markets.

So, what do successful applicants actually get?

All applicants who meet the basic criteria set out below will have an opportunity to meet with us to engage in an assessment of their design needs which will subsequently be provided in outline form.

Successful applicants will receive a costed design proposal which will contain details of how Hu will support the cost of the suggested plan. The design solutions – and therefore the exact nature of the support – will vary for each applicant. Support may comprise sponsorship of a specific element of the identified design needs, or a percentage discount of a larger design component. The support provided to each successful applicant will not be less than 25% nor more than 40% of the total cost of the design proposal.

Who is it for?

It doesn’t matter how young you are… how young is your business? Whether you are 18 or 80, if you live in Pembrokeshire and you are starting a business – or if your business is three years old or younger – you are eligible to apply for this scheme.

We welcome applications from all business sectors – variety is the spice of life!

Just fill in the brief form at the bottom of this page and press send. There are no tricky questions and the form shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes to fill in.

Applications for this round will close at midnight on 31st December 2019. (You might see some fireworks…)

What happens next?

We will be contacting all applicants in the first two weeks of January to book appointments to meet with you at your convenience. These meetings are a crucial part of the application process as we will have a chance to learn much more about your business, your plans, and what you would like to get from the design process.

We will then provide all applicants with an outline assessment of your design needs.

The successful applicants will also receive a more detailed, costed design proposal indicating how Hu Studio will support the cost of your overall project and what costs would remain to be covered by you, should you decide to accept.

We hope to announce the successful applicants in the local press and online at the beginning of February, but we are dependent on the availability of all of the applicants to meet with us to achieve this deadline. We will keep you informed of any delays that may occur in the process. In any event, all decisions will be provided to applicants by February 29th 2020 at the latest.

The first benefit of being a successful applicant in this scheme will be profile raising through our own marketing programme. Please note that when applying for this scheme you will be asked to confirm that you are willing for your acceptance of any proposal (though not the details of that proposal) to be used in publicity materials for Hu Studio.
